• One of the minor irritations that cropped up on the last trip was the indicator / flasher relay sticking on after the circuitry had warmed up. I just assumed it was a dodgy relay and whipped the dash out to locate the troublesome chap. Confusingly, I found a plug where the relay should have been with wires leading off to a beautifuly soldered and quite sinister looking metal box located deep within the dashboard clusters.

    Naturally, I removed it and patiently cut it open with my Dremel. Therein I found a very ordinary flasher relay mounted downstream of a very 1990s looking board of transistors / capacitors and goodness knows what else. I removed the relay, plugged it straight in the dash and bingo - sorted.

    Turns out it was all the 'Fitted For Radio variant suppression gubbins that were failing as they heated up and the relay itself is just fine.

    Good to see that some very serious kit went into these things when they were built. I can only guess that the minute arcing caused by the unsuppressed indicator relay's on/off/on action was enough to cause problems with the comms equipment - hence the need for the extra sneaky-beaky gear.

    Hope that this gubbins is declassified - this could be my last post...
