Just left Hull bound for Zeebrugge and enjoyed the experience of the massive ferry we're on penning down into the Humber (pic). I've been through countless inland waterway's locks on small craft but never done such a thing on a giant scale.
In the mouth of the Humber now (coordinates) and enjoying looking from the water back at the birdwatching spots I frequently spend many-an-hour at.
It's only the second time I've sailed out of Hull and it's a good experience. It's a pretty laid back affair; much less frenetic and low-key than the southern cross-channel ports we ordinarily use.
We're heading for Spain for a bit with no real destination in mind but are hoping to get to a couple of national parks that look especially good for big raptors. We have the small matter of driving through France first, though, and will try to find some interesting spots as we go. If all goes well we might even be able to knock off another of the (currently very few) parkruns that the French are organising.
