I went for a tentative run first thing this morning and though the backdrop was pleasant enough (pic) the run itself was something of a struggle. The virus is still in charge.
As we got underway the weather turned a bit and we drove through three or four really heavy showers. We also encountered a couple of traffic jams. It's a long time since we've seen any of those! It would seem Germany is now following the UK model of road repairs where a road is extensively dug up, coned off, and then abandoned for about eighteen months but for a couple of blokes in high-vis vests lazing around in a van. In fairness to the Germans, the vans are generally cleaner here.
We didn't have much of a plan today so sort of gravitated back at a place we've stayed a few times before. It's a nice bit of heathland that's managed for grasshoppers and wildlife in general. It's part of a really extensive network of sandy tracks through woodland and heath and is a great place for gravel biking. Emma wanted to test her 'recovery' and so both dutifully and gingerly gravel biked. A bit like me, she came back from a short-and-steady ride more than a little whacked. Virus 2: Hosts 0.
As for the site itself, there's been quite a lot about including butterflies, dragonflies and birds - but nothing rare or unusual.
It's not been a bad day's bumbling, but it ain't like bumbling through Finland. We in the heart of the West could maybe do worse than to stop fretting about whether Amazon will indeed deliver the latest crap we don't really need before 10.00am as promised, and instead build our year around harvesting wild cranberries in a battered old plastic tub.
